MOGADISHU Somalia: African Union Envoy and Special Representative of the Chairperson to the AU Commission to Somalia Maman Sidikou has called on the need to increase initiatives if peace and stability is to be realized in Somalia.
According to Maman Sidikou, who is the Special Representative of the Chairperson of the AU Commission for Somalia and Head of the AU Mission to Somalia (AMISOM), support is needed to free Somalia a country that has never had peace for decades.
Speaking on Monday 21st September 2015 in the capital Mogadishu to mark the International Day of Peace, Sidikou indicated the need to appreciate the effort and bravely witnessed from AMISOM troops in the war torn horn of Africa country.
“We cannot underestimate the power of those who have made deliberate efforts to shun violence and embrace peace.
“A bright future for Somalia depends on collaborative efforts that will enhance that peace,”–Sidikou.
Somalia has been struggling with insurgency for decades. The Al Qaeda branch in Somalia popularly known as Al Shabaab, has been fighting the international backed government with sole objective of overthrowing it and installing their own strict Islamist rule of Sharia Law.

AMISOM peacekeeping troops comprises of force contingents from Kenya, Uganda, Sierra Leone, Burundi, Ethiopia and Djibouti.
The AU troops have been very active recently though have faced militant resistance, have stepped up their onslaught campaigns to crash Harakat al Shabaaab al Mujahideen out of Somalia as well as to her neigbouring countries in East Africa.
Envoy Sidikou vowed to push for more support for the brave SNA and AMISOM soldiers citing that Somali government, with aid from the AU and other international partners are determined to do anything possible to make sure complete peace is restored and Somalia returns to the path of socio-economic and political recovery.
