Syrian Kurdish forces that have been battling ISIS in Syria have in their custody at least 900 foreign fighters arrested during the recent mop-up of the Jihadis. The Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) spokesperson released a statement that accounts for the thousands of fighters arrested during the lengthy battle against the Islamists.
YPG spokesman Nuri Mahmoud said that around 900 Daesh terrorists from at least 44 countries are being held in various jails in Syria. According to statistics given in previous months, the current figures indicate a steep increase and as such is a clear indicator of more successful counterterrorism campaign.
The figures released come as the Daesh is cornered into a few pockets remaining both in Syria and Iraq and as such it is a thumbs up in the right direction of the ultimate defeat of the militants that attempted to create a self-proclaimed caliphate based on strict sharia laws and extremist ideologies.
