Military reports from Somalia show that eight Al-Shabaab fighters were killed in a joint security operation in southern Somalia.
According to Somalia National Army (SNA) General Sheegow, who is the 20th Brigade Commander, the terror fighters were killed by SNA and foreign forces in Lower Shabelle.
The joint operation was carried out an area in Bariire known to harbor Al-Shabaab terrorists. Cornered fighters engaged the forces with gun fire but they were overpowered, subsequently eight of them were killed while a number managed to flee with gun injuries.
The Somali security forces have in the past two weeks successfully disrupted multiple Al-Shabaab tax stations and removed key militant leaders in various strategic locations in the Horn of Africa nation.
