A report released by International Organization for Migration, the Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims and the Interior ministry titled ‘Socio-economic and Survey of Kenya’ has revealed that at least 700 Kenyans have returned home after quitting Al Shabaab.
The report cited the government amnesty issued earlier in the year as well as disappointment of the recruits when they didn’t get what they had been promise while pledging to al Shabaab as the major reasons for returning.
Summary:
In April 2015, Kenya’s Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaisserry issues an amnesty call for all al Shabaab recruits who surrendered to the government offering anonymity and quiet absorption back into the society.
A report jointly released by International Organization for Migration, the Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims and the Interior Ministry records at least 700 returnees from mainly al Shabaab in Somalia and the global terror network.
The returnees mainly cited several major reasons for returning;
- Disappointment when the deals that enticed them failed to go through as promised during the recruitment
- Others took advantage of the government amnesty call issued to Kenya-born members of the al Shabaab
- It was a ticket home especially for those amputated during the war and raging conflict.
The returnees said that they received severe military training and were even given leadership positions to lure them to stay and fight. Most returnees especially those aged between 24-34 years have suffered amputated limbs, head injuries and other deadly physical and psychological injuries.
Evidence presented by the returnees confirm the ruthlessness of the al Shabaab especially to the youth who have the vigor and are easily brainwashed to participate in active combat to further the groups’ agenda.
The returnees hope to be assimilated slowly into the society with some even volunteering to curb radicalization and violent extremism among the youth especially in the coastal counties.
Their experience places them, best to identify and help counter radicalizing ideologies and recruitment strategies as they stand on the blind spot previously experienced by security agencies.

kenyans are now in danger! afadhali wangekaa somalia- no rehab for terrorist- he will still do the evil’
They should first be debriefed first as they could be using this as a tactic of entering into the society as sleepers only to re-emerge later on and cause mayhem and havoc. They should also be tagged and their whereabouts known 24/7
we do not want them in kenya.
i don trust this report.nt convincing..they can wake up anytime.they should be put under strict surveillance and their phones tapped
The report says they were sent by alshaab to cary attacks in kenya….. Tel the truth
Could this be a tactical move by alshabaab?
i trust our inteligence are not reckless they are well trained for such good work
Patriotism does not run in their blood, only ego..
wangeendelea kukaa huko wamaliziwe huko huko sasa tutawamaliza hapa sasa na kuwanyonga
Don’t trust them. They must be placed in a controlled environment to make sure. Sleeper agents claim the same only to unleash their horrors.
Excellent.
It takes spiritual warfare to tackle an ideological war hence the bible is clear. We wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities and powers, wickedness in the highest places. It’s only through prayers we can succeed because the unseen world wrestle everyday against God’s elect and the won’t stop until judgment day when God will judge the world.
If they have defected maybe it’s a tact and in fact that number is too high because no one defects a militia group if they are bound by their oath. We need to pray for this nation tena also by fasting
tuko tu
They have not surrendered; its a tact 2 a safe come back 2 excecute more terror. I wish they r consolidated in an area & killed like poisoned rats: they r still dangerous species & we r no longer safe.
Propaganda.
Keep this people away from their families, let them remai in one area where they can b controled, I think also is a good no to work for gvt without payment for them to know kenya no the same they left, big threat to kenyans
Amen.
Very close surveillance to all ….#noassumptions …
