The United States has announced that the last pockets if ISIS resistance in Syria are on the brink of falling as they have been surrounded by allied forces. intelligence reports on the ground also cite an increasingly desperate ISIS who are currently employing crude methods to mount a failing resistance.
The final offensive against ISIS in Syria is dubbed “Operation Roundup” and was started three weeks ago by the Syrian Democratic Forces, or SDF, a coalition of Arab and Kurdish fighters trained, equipped, and advised by the U.S.
As ISIS retreats, they’re employing improvised explosive devices along routes and booby-trapping houses to inflict casualties as the SDF fighters. The tactics are a characteristic of a despairing group to feel less cornered by trying to distract the forces as they get captured.
In the past three weeks, over 2300 men, women, children have been put in the custody of the SDF forces among them over 700 militants especially from the two liberated towns in the areas near the Euphrates River Valley.
While ISIS has not been completely been defeated in Syria, the Operation is hoping to achieve that objective as they rigorous and robustly mount coordinated offensives against the terrorists.
