Intelligence reports have confirmed that at least 6 Malian soldiers were killed by IED/mine detonation around 1830hrs yesterday in the area of Dioura towards Diabaly on the regional border between Ségou and Mopti. The troops were on patrol in the terror-struck area when their vehicle hit the roadside mine set up militants.
Mali continues to grapple with the presence of al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) as well as two factions of the al-Mourabitoun affiliated to both Al Qaeda and ISIS. In recent days the troops have become targets seeing as the Sahel has invigorated its efforts to deal with all the offshoots of terror organization operating in the region.
However, UN peacekeepers as well as French troops, have vowed to intensify the fight against the various terror groups and affiliated militias to ensure that Mali and the greater Sahel are safe and do not create a haven for militants freeing war in other parts of the globe.
