Somali National Army backed by Ethiopian troops have taken control of Moqorki town in Hiiraan region in Somalia. The troops attacked the area in an overnight overran in an operation that saw the troops approach the district from different directions.
The residents reported heavy exchange of gunfire erupted early in the morning as the armored vehicle and the tanks of the allied troops have been rolling into the town.
While the Somali and AU forces encountered a heavy resistance during the takeover of the key area in central Somalia, they managed to inflict serious casualties on the militants taking over the town.
The region has been under Al-Shabaab control since 2016 and was the main operations hub for the militants fighting against Somali government and the African Union forces [AMISOM].
