At least five (5) Al-Shabaab operatives including a senior bomb expert surrendered to the Somali government forces this week.
According
to the ministry of information, Al-Shabaab bomb expert identified as Yusuf
Ahmed Adow, was the latest to defect to the Somalia National Army (SNA) forces
in Gedo region in southern Somalia, bringing the number of defectors to five.
Adow and another Al-Shabaab operative identified as Ahmed Aden and another Al-Shabaab
explosive maker surrendered to the government forces on Thursday while two
other terror operatives defected to the government forces in Garbaharey, and
Bardere towns on Monday.
Regional government officials confirmed of receiving them and said that they would
be handed over the authorities in Mogadishu for debrief.
The latest defections come amid intensified military operations against the Al-Qaeda
affiliated group which is fighting to topple the Somalia government.
