Somalia special forces trained by Turkey have launched the first operation against al Shabaab in the recently liberated Awdhegle Lower Shabelle region. The troops repulsed the attack on their new base after heavily armed fighters launched an attack on positions of the Somali forces in the agricultural town.
At least 4 al Shabaab terrorists were killed by the Somali special forces from Danab unit who recaptured Awdhegle which is 70 kilometers from the capital, Mogadishu. The troops recently graduated from the Turkish-run military academy.
Al Shabaab is seemingly gradually losing territory in southern Somalia as government and allied troops continue to put pressure on them as well as wrangles coming from internal conflicts creating disarray.
