At least 30 al Shabaab militants have been killed following heavy fighting between them and the government troops backed by local armed militia near Bulobude town located some 300km from Mogadishu.
The fighting erupted after local armed militias started to fight against Al Shabaab in areas near Buloburde and Mokoqori towns in a scrimmage brought about by an extortion scheme by the al Qaeda-affiliated mujahideen. The skirmishes that are said to have lasted three days led to the death of at least thirty al Shabaab militants and several casualties on the Ma’awisley militia side.
The al Shabaab have been extorting higher Zakat in different parts of Somalia a move that has been met with heavy resistance seeing as villagers have major denounced al Shabaab and ready to rebuild Somalia that has been in civil war since the 1990s.
