At last three Somali soldiers serving as the protection detail for the Lower Shabelle Governor were killed and several others injured after the convoy hit a landmine. The convoy was escorting, Ali Adan Najah traveling near e when it was hit by landmine suspected to have been planted on the roadside.
The attack comes barely two days after a deadly explosion killed deputy governor of Middle Shabelle and ex-trade minister of Hirshabelle state that was claimed by the al Qaeda affiliated al Shabaab.
Al Shabaab appears to have switched up attacks with now targeting politicians and high-profile administration and leaders. The intensified attacks on the leadership may indicate a changeup that would quite impact the leadership in Somalia in the long run. Additionally, the attempted assassinations come as intelligence in Somalia, especially southern Somalia show a growing presence of al Shabaab activities in the region.
