US-led coalition in Iraq has killed at least 25 members of the Islamic State in Iraq’s oil-rich Kirkuk province. According to Maj. Gen. Maan al-Saadi of the Iraqi military, the airstrikes led by the US targeted Daesh positions in the northwestern province of Iraq.
The airstrikes were a retaliation for a Daesh bombing targeting a high-voltage transmission line in Havice region of Kirkuk. The strikes destroyed two shelters that a Daesh contingent was hiding.
Isolated Daesh attacks have been occurring in recent months despite December 2017’s, declaration by officials in Baghdad that Daesh’s military presence in Iraq had been all but dismantled over operations backed by the U.S.-led International Alliance.
