At least 23 people have been killed while dozens of others have been injured following rival clan militia clashed in Somalia. The warring clans hail from the Somali Federal States of Puntland and Galmudug and have forced hundreds of families to flee the region.
Intelligence reports indicate that the militiamen from the clans started fighting over grazing land disputes and clan vendetta in Af-Barwaqo and Towfiq villages, east of the conflict-riddled region.
While clan clashes are common in Somalia, this is one of the worst such confrontations seen in the province, claiming the lives of dozens of people within two days. Security apparatus in the region are on high alert as there is intel that indicates the militias are preparing for war in the neighboring villages despite intervention from the elders who seek to establish a truce through negotiations.
The skirmish comes as the country is suffering from severe floods and the cyclone Pawan that continues to push the international aid-dependent nation closer to another humanitarian crisis and a full-blown famine.
