At least 20 terrorists killed and over 100 others arrested in bilateral Mali-Niger military operation. The attack occurred in Tabankort in eastern Mali and near her border with Niger.
According to Malian troops, at least two dozen troops were killed and others injured during the operation. The attack comes weeks after 54 troops were killed in another attack in Mali – one of the deadliest in the past decade.
The region where the operation occurred has depicted a huge presence from the Islamic State in the Greater Sahara (ISGS) which has been conducting attacks in Mali and has reportedly spread across the Sahel region.
Mali and Niger form part of the G5 alliance, a joint operation with Burkina Faso, Chad and Mauritania which aims to fight terrorism and track terror suspects in the Sahel region.
