A combined multi-agency team of National Police Service and Kenya Defence Forces rescued at least 156 quarry workers from a would-be deadly attack by the al Shabaab in Mandera County. The militants attacked the workers at quarries in Fincharo and Shimbir Fatuma in Elwak Subcounty.
Unfortunately, three workers were killed and four others fatally injured in the Thursday evening incident amidst the heavy rains in the area. Meanwhile, a Cordon and Search operation targeting the terrorists is ongoing in the area and all quarries have been ordered closed indefinitely by the Regional Commissioner, North Eastern Region.
Al shabaab has launched similar attacks in the past and as such prompting the heightened vigilance by security officers and reservist police in the region.
