200 Presidential guard officers from the 60th Battalion have completed a three months training course in Mogadishu. The soldiers are set to join others in the guard of the presidential palace which has in the past been a target by al Shabaab militants.
The presidential guards are specially trained to handle the security of the president of Somalia both at home and on his trips abroad.
In the past, the Villa Somalia has been a target of attacks by the al Shabaab and as such the reinforcements are timely and welcome as the country strives to integrate the military as a recently required by the UN Security Council.
