152 Somali National Army soldiers graduated from the Turkey-Somalia (Turk-Som) military academy in a ceremony that was presided by Somali President, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo.
The president thanked the Turkish government for their support especially in the training and equipping the relatively young military as it struggles to stabilize and face the threat posed by both ISIS and Al Qaeda affiliates present in the country.
Farmajo reiterated the significance of training, senior military officials in the country while calling upon the new officers to focus on undertaking their national duty.
The base which was opened on October 2017 reportedly cost $50m and is aimed to train 10,000 Somali troops. Turk-Som has the capacity to train at least 1,500 soldiers at a time.
