On 24th July 2019, Kenya intelligence and security services carried out an operation targeting terrorists and subsequently destroyed an improvised explosive devices (IED) assembly and health services center-camp near the border belonging to the Al-Qaeda branch in Somalia Harakat Shabaab Mujahideen. Weapons, explosives, electronics, food stuffs and medicine were recovered. The camp was located inside a geographically complex area identified as Gaame located in Ijaara area in Lower Garissa, North Eastern Kenya Prefecture.
The discovery of dozens of used ceftriaxone (Rocephin Antibiotic) injectable’s confirms the camp has been serving as a treatment center for critically wounded and sick terrorists. Ceftriaxone, sold under the trade name Rocephin, is an antibiotic used for the treatment of a number of bacterial infections. 3 IED’s under assembly were destroyed. Large amounts of black explosive powder used to assemble IED’s was recovered at the camp.
