The Pentagon on Wednesday January 13th said that 2 US Navy boats had been detained by Iran alongside 10 crew members.
The pentagon however confirmed the release of the crew members; 9 men and a woman were released back to the US Navy custody with no indication of being harmed.
The Pentagon’s spokesman said that the boats did not go into Iranian waters on purpose but due to a mechanical hitch that led to loss of contact as they were sailing through the Gulf.
Either sides have agreed to thoroughly investigate the circumstances that led to the ships drifting into Iranian waters in attempts to avoid affecting already thawing diplomatic tension between Tehran and Washington.
