Yemeni Forces in Hadhramaut governorate have launched a comprehensive operation targeting the remaining pockets of al Qaeda in Yabuth District. Yabuth Iis located west of Al Mukala city and the operation is geared at ridding the areas of al-Qaeda elements as well as destroying their hideouts and weapons.
The operation, dubbed Iron Fist and led by pro-government forces backed by the UAE, aims to secure the isolated mountainous areas of Yabuth, where members of Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) are thought to be hiding.
Troops from the Second Military Zone were deployed in many sites in the district of Yabuth, over the mountainous hills and formed new checkpoints along the routes that link the district to other districts, according to the captain of the second military zone.
AQAP, which is the official affiliate of al Qaeda in Yemen has been dubbed the most lethal wing of the global terror organization and as such the operation is crucial in ensuring that group is degraded in war-torn Yemen.
