The elite RECCE Company of the GSU in Kenya is a squadron of special forces that have been responsible for ending some of the most would-be dangerous attacks in Kenya in recent past. RECCE which is a paramilitary squadron is equipped with high-end tech and weapons.
The service weapon of RECCE is the high-performance 5.56mm caliber M16 assault rifle which is the United States military select-fire adaptation of the AR-15 rifle family. The rifle has been termed as among the best assault rifles used by most special forces and military across the globe.
It fires the 5.56x75mm NATO cartridge and has been adapted for both automatic and semi-automatic fire. It is preferred by the Elite Squadrons in Kenya mainly because it is light weighing 3.26kg unloaded and 4kg loaded. It is also very mobile for operations that require speed and precision to execute as measures 100cm with a long barrel and either a 20-round detachable box magazine or 30-round detachable magazine.
It was initially commissioned for America’s jungle warfare and has since moved to other militaries as it is gas operated, magazine fed air cooled assault rifle made of steel, composite plastics, and polymer materials.
It can be used for both long range and close combat seeing as it has a 600-800m target area which can be used to target enemy combatants from a distance as far as 800m with higher accuracy than other rifles used in the Kenya security forces.
The M16 assault rifle is very reliable and has withstood the test of time and has been a preferred arm for the Elite Kenya Paramiltary troops.
