The United Kingdom and the United States are planning joint cyber war games to gauge the stature, stability and vulnerabilities of each nation’s networked critical infrastructure. This comes at a time when global jihadi networks are leveraging cyber resources to augment kinetic warfare against the civilized world.
The war games will simulate a wide-ranging array of cyber-attacks launched by technologically adept cyber attackers against the financial, energy, telecommunication, transport and utility sectors of the two nations. Further exercises will also be conducted in order to detect and patch existent cyber vulnerabilities within critical national infrastructures.
Additionally, a joint all-encompassing cyber cell will be established in order to fortify mutual defenses. The cyber cell will be a collaborative effort between the two governments and their respective security agencies. The cell will have an operational presence in both countries.
Funding has been set aside to train holistic cyber experts whose skill set would enable them to combat rapidly-evolving cyber-crimes. Moreover, the cyber experts will also be able to intercept, decode, decrypt and translate all online communications.
Currently, both governments are working on engaging social media companies in counter-terrorism. Moreover, they are endeavoring to have social networking sites to allow security agencies to view encrypted content.
