Kenya is the economic powerhouse within East and Central Africa and this has given it considerable geopolitical clout within the region, Africa and the World in general. Kenya has a solid reputation as a peaceful nation. However, the political landscape in the nation is occasioned with volatility. To stabilize the nation and also ensure the achievement of national objectives, the Government of Kenya (GoK) has implemented a series of national reforms including constitutional reforms and the re-adaptation of strategic regional objectives in light of the evolving geopolitical challenges.
To deepen its regional involvement, Kenya has involved itself in the stabilization of Somalia and its national infrastructural projects aims to economically and physically link the entire East African region. The evolving security realities within the nation have compelled GoK to realign its internal security policies. This is informed by the fact that GoK must ensure a stable national life in face of both internal and external security threats.
The establishment of a new internal military command has enabled GoK to deploy the military to manage domestic security crises. KDF is also deployed in Somalia and this coupled with internal deployments have tested and proven the capability and resolve of KDF to secure the nation in the face of both internal and external national security challenges. The operational tempo and objective consistency of the KDF has proven it to be the most professional army in the entire East and Central Africa.
The scale of reforms undertaken by the GoK has been hailed as unmatched in Africa. The adoption of institutional reforms aims to deal with corruption and capacity deficits within the NPS (National Police Service), address land problems, advance infrastructure, improve public service delivery and also productively engage the youth in political, social and economic realms. The adoption of a devolved national system of government has brought governance to the grassroots. These reforms will consolidate the regional and international position of Kenya.
