The U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) has confirmed to have carried out three separate strikes against members of the Al-Qaeda affiliated Al-Shabaab terror group on Sunday 5th April 2020, killing eight members of the group.
The three strikes took place near the city of Mubaraak, in the Lower Shabelle region of southern Somalia. AFRICOM detailed the strikes as ramped-up operations aimed at disrupting Al-Shabaab activities in southern region of Somalia.
The Al-Shabaab terror group has been the target of numerous and frequent strikes by U.S. forces. The AFRICOM statement assessed no civilian casualties from the three strikes.
The U.S. has increased its targeted strikes against Al-Shabaab since 2014, as part of a campaign to eliminate the militant organization in support of Somalia’s federal government, which is based in Mogadishu.
AFRICOM also reported a prior five Al-Shabaab militants killed in an airstrike in Bush Madina on April 3.
