The United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) has announced that its airstrikes attacked Jilib an al Shabaab stronghold killing one terrorist.
According to intelligence the target of the drone strike was directly linked to Al Qaeda and was embedded within al Shabaab at its headquarters. Such targeted strikes and the killing of militants with direct links to al Qaeda are becoming a common occurrence as this is the second target in the past two weeks.
The airstrike comes barely a week since AFRICOM Commander Army Gen. Stephen Townsend visited Somalia to assess and discuss security matters and actions against al Shabaab and Islamic State militants active in Somalia.
U.S. AFRICOM has vowed to continue to jointly work with the Federal Government of Somalia and international peacekeepers for the fight against terrorism in the country.
