US forces carried out an airstrike Al Qaeda terrorists in Libya following intelligence that indicated the presence of Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) terrorists along the Libya-Algerian border. According to a statement issued by AFRICOM, the airstrike was in coordination with the Libyan Government of National Accord (GN A) and it was conducted near Al Uwaynat, Libya.
The precision airstrike killed 11 al Qaeda terrorists while at the same time destroying three vehicles. Sources revealed that the 11 were traveling in a convoy in the terrorist-infested area and were struck in the US’ third airstrike in Libya this year.
This airstrike is the first since the June 13 strike killed a suspected militant approximately 50 miles (80 km) southeast of Bani Walid. The first strike, on March March 24, resulted in the death of Musa Abu Dawud, a high-ranking AQIM official, according to AFRICOM.
