The United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) has announced that it conducted an airstrike against al Shabaab militants in the vicinity of Kunyo Barrow Somalia on June 25, 2019.
At least one al Shabaab terrorist was killed in the operation that did not have any civilian casualties. Kunyo Barrow in Lower Shabelle has offered home for some of the most important al Shabaab commanders and as such a strike in the vicinity is a huge blow to the organization.
The United States military carries out regular air raids in Somalia to assist Somali troops who have been fighting against an Al-Shabab rebellion for years. The airstrikes have increased especially this year with targets not limited to al Shabaab in Middle and Southern Somalia but also ISS in northern areas regions.
