MOGADISHU Somalia, June 6, 2016
Unidentified gunmen on Sunday 5th June 2016 shot dead a female journalist working for the state-run radio and television in Somali’s capital, Mogadishu.
The female journalist identified as Sagal Salad Osman was a producer with the state-run media outlets.
Police reports that armed men approached her outside a university in Mogadishu and opened fire killing her instantly.
Somalia has been ranked as the worst place to work as a journalist. The country ranks high on CPJ’s impunity index for unresolved murders blamed on criminals and Al-Shabaab terrorists group.
Even though relative calm and stability has been witnessed in Somali’s capital following many defeats of Islamist militants, journalists remain a common target for criminals/militants in Somalia.
