The United Nations (UN) has raised alarm on what was termed as illegal increase of small arms and light weapons (SALW) in Nigeria.
UN has warned that that more than 350 million out of 500 million of such weapons in West Africa are domiciled in Nigeria.
UN has highlighted the critical need to control the flow of arms in Nigeria the effective management of the armoury and weapon stockpiles.
The ongoing conflicts and armed groups in Mali and Libya are believed to have contributed to some of the weapons in Nigeria.
UN has also warned of increased illegal arms in Nigeria saying its existence is a threat even to the surrounding countries.
Notable is that Nigeria is still battling the Islamist sect, Boko Haram plagued with series of Kidnapping saying it likely these arms might land into their hands.
