UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Sunday condemned the latest terrorist attacks in the Somalia’s capital Mogadishu and in northeastern, Wajir county, Kenya, which killed at least 18 people in total on Saturday.
The UN chief expressed his deepest condolences to the families of those killed and to the governments and people of Kenya and Somalia. He expressed the solidarity of the United Nations with the governments of Kenya and Somalia in their relentless efforts to fight terrorism and violent extremism.
On Saturday, at least 8 Administration Policemen (AP) were killed when their patrol vehicle ran over an improvised explosive device in Wajir County, along the Kenya-Somalia border.
The Al-Qaeda linked Islamist militant group Al-Shabaab claimed to have kidnapped three Kenyan police reservists on Friday from the same area.
At least 11 Somaliapeople died in a car bomb explosion at a checkpoint in Mogadishu on Saturday, claimed by Al-Shabaab.
The latest IED attack by Al-Shabaab in Wajir county of Kenya comes barely a week after it was reported of increased Al-Shabaab militants’ presence in Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Lamu counties.
