Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni called on leaders in war torn South Sudan to unite and work towards realizing peace in the country.
On Friday last week, President Museveni met South Sudan delegation led by the newly appointed First Vice President, Taban Deng Gai. Other Southe Sudan leaders at the meeting included minister of defence and veteran affairs Kuol Manyang Juuk and South Sudan Ambassador to the United Nations Akuei Bona Malwal.
The Ugandan President reiterated that, the conflict in South Sudan is of concern to the regional peace.
In a state house statement, Museveni called on South Sudan leaders to embrace peace for economic transformation and development of the world’s youngest nation.
Fresh fighting erupted in South Sudan’s capital Juba on July 8 between forces of President Salva Kiir and those loyal to former First Vice President Riek Machar, killing hundreds and forcing thousands to flee to neighboring countries.
Neighbouring Sudan has lamented that over 400,000 South Sudan refugees have already crossed over Sudan.
