Yemen airstrikes led by Saudi Arabia come to an end as President Obama sternly warns Iran against helping Houthi rebels in Yemen with weaponry which could lead to escalating conflict in the war-torn country.Iran has been publicly supporting Houthi rebels with weapons and man power to oust the Yemen government under President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi.
Obama added that the conflict could threaten America’s navigation in the region, only a few days after the U.S. Navy released warships intended to block an Iranian ship which was transporting weapons from Iran to Houthis through the Yemen waters.
This war has seen thousands lose their lives, others flee to other countries as refugees and the poor country’s economy keeps falling every day.
Iran and Saudi Arabia have been maintaining their opposite ends in the on-going war in Yemen. Saudi Arabia has been launching airstrikes campaign under “Operation Decisive Storm” in the region, which the country declared an end to on Tuesday.
The United States on the other hand deployed warships to the region to intercept Iraniana arms which were meant to be delivered to Houthis.
President Obama is now advocating for a Political arrangement to end the war in Yemen. The proxy war in Yemen has not resolved the dispute so far, he adds.
