A U.S. pilot working with Saudi Arabia National Guard was on Thursday, September 6 killed alongside his student when their helicopter crashed in Riyadh.
The Saudi national guard identified the U.S. pilot as Paul Reedy saying he has been flying a Boeing AH-6i, a light attack and reconnaissance helicopter.
The Boeing AH-6 is a light helicopter gunship built on the MH-6 Little Bird and MD 500 series.
Saudi Arabia and the United States, longtime military allies, and received its first AH-6i aircraft, the export variant, in June 2017. Riyadh had ordered 24 aircraft from U.S.-Boeing in August 2014.
The U.S. also provides weapons and ammunition, aerial refueling to jets, intelligence and information to a Saudi-led military coalition fighting Houthi rebels in Yemen.
