U.S. military has said it’s prepared to train, support and arm mission in Libya to fight Islamic State militants.
According to the head of U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) confirmed that U.S. military ready to start their support mission in Libya after getting a nod from the Libyan government.
AFRICOM commander General Rodriguez has blamed Libya’s internal politics has made Islamic State to flourish establishing foothold in the nation.
Rodriguez said that there is a challenge in the war against Islamic State in Libya saying it’s unclear which armed groups are fighting alongside the Libyan unity government.
Libya fell under UN arms embargo following violence witnessed during the fall of Gaddaffi. Arms embargo was imposed to keep lethal weapons away from terrorists as well as militias vying for power.
In recently concluded Vienna talks Intentional Community present including the U.S., agreed to provide arms and support to the Libyan government to fight Islamic State.
U.S. MILITARY LOCATIONS
U.S. military is looking for locations to set up military bases. According to AFRICOM spokesman Colonel Mark Cheadle, U.S. military has looked at 11 locations for small cooperative security locations to help African nations fight extremist groups menace.
U.S has only one military base in the East African nation of Djibouti.
U.S. also deployed special operation forces in Somalia to help SNA and AMISOM fight against Al-Shabaab.
Cameroon has collaborated with Chad, Mali, Nigeria and Niger in forming a multinational force in an effort against Nigeria-based Boko Haram.
Cheadle hinted possibility of setting a new cooperative security base in Cameroon.
U.S. has been actively involved in training Nigeria’s Intelligence corps as well as three Nigerian battalions.
