The U.S. military force has confirmed that it killed eight (8) members of the Al-Shabaab extremist group in the airstrike conducted in south of Somalia’s capital on December 15, 2018.
According to the U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) statement, the airstrike in support of the Federal government of Somalia occurred on Saturday near Gandarshe, a coastal community. The statement says no civilians were involved.
In an effort to degrade the Al-Qaeda linked Al-Shabaab, the U.S. military force has carried out at least 40 airstrikes this year against, Africa’s most active Islamic extremist group.
Though the terrorist group has suffered huge blows, it still maintains active terror cells in southern and central Somalia which continues to stage deadly attacks in the capital, Mogadishu, and other cities.
