Latest military reports from Somalia indicate that Al-Shabaab has dealt another huge blow after U.S. conducted successful airstrike.
U.S. forces in support of the Federal Government of Somalia conducted an airstrike against an Al-Shabaab Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) in the early hours of December 12. The precision air raid was conducted approximately 65 kilometers southwest of the capital, Mogadishu.
According to U.S. Africa Command, the intelligence led raid was in support of Somali forces. The strike eliminated an imminent threat to the people of Somalia citing the VBIED could have killed dozens of innocent Somalis.
In a press release AFRICOM reiterated commitment of US in partnership with AMISOM and Somali Forces in making sure Al-Shabaab terrorist group is eliminated and Somalia is stabilized.
U.S. forces will continue to use all authorized and appropriate measures to disable Al-Shabaab threats. The measures include partnering with all allied forces in Somalia in combined counterterrorism operations, targeting terrorists and their training camps and their safe havens throughout Somalia and the neighbouring region.
