The U.S. conducted fresh airstrike in support of the Somali army, killing at least four (4) Al-Shabaab militants.
In coordination with Federal government of Somalia forces, the U.S. forces carried out the air bombardment targeting Al-Shabaab militants in the vicinity of Araara in Lower Juba on October 14. According to the released BDA, the airstrike killed four terror militant and wounded several others.
A statement by U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM), showed that there were no civilians killed or injured in the precision airstrike that was intelligence led.
The airstrike was conducted after U.S. and partner forces (SNA) came under small arms fire. No U.S. service members were present on the ground during the Somali-led operation, AFRICOM statement added.
U.S. and Kenyan troops in Somalia continue to carryout airstrikes against the Al-Qaeda branch in Somalia, Harakat al-Shabaab al Mujahideen ragtag militia.
The U.S. which has carried more than 20 such strikes since the beginning of this year against the Somalia-based Al-Shabaab has maintained it stand that, it will continue to use all authorized and appropriate measures to protect its citizens, its interests and to disable terrorists’ threats in Somalia and the region.
The U.S., has also carried out several drones strikes against a small presence of fighters linked to the Islamic State (IS) organization in the northern part of the Horn of Africa nation.
