U.S. forces in coordination with Federal government of Somalia forces conducted an airstrike in the vicinity of Harardere, Mudug region of Somalia on October 12, 2018.
According to a press release by U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM), the intelligence-led airstrike killed about sixty (60) Al-Shabaab militants.
The precision airstrike by U.S. forces is one the deadliest against the Al-Qaeda linked Al-Shabaab since November 21, 2017 when U.S. forces conducted and air raid targeting on Al-Shabaab camp killing approximately 100, terrorist fighters.
AFRICOM also stated that the airstrike did not injure or kill any civilians. The U.S. military forces has carried out more than two dozen airstrikes, including drone strikes, this year against the Al-Qaeda-linked Al-Shabaab and a small number of fighters linked to the Islamic State group operating in northern Somalia.
U.S. alongside AMISOM partners continue to carry out military operations in an effort to degrade Al-Shabaab.
