In support of the Federal Government of Somalia, U.S. conducted fresh airstrikes approximately 23 miles east of Beledweyne in Hiran region, Somalia killing 35 Al-Shabaab militants.
U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) confirmed of the airstrike conducted on February 24 saying it dealt a huge blow to the Al-Qaeda linked Al-Shabaab.
The latest precision airstrike targeted Al-Shabaab militants as they were transitioning between locations in a rural area. The U.S. airstrike is part of large effort to support the Somali National Army (SNA) as it increases pressure on the terrorist network and to disrupt group’s recruiting efforts in the region.
The latest airstrike left 35 Al-Shabaab militants killed while several are believed to have fled with serious injuries. AFRICOM assessed that there were no civilians injured or killed in this airstrike.
