U.S. forces in support of the Somali National Army conducted an airstrike targeting Al-Qaeda affiliated Al-Shabaab militants in vicinity of Qunyo Barrow, southern Somalia on May 17.
U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) in a press release has confirmed that it forces conducted an airstrike in support to the Somali partners.
According to U.S. Army Maj. Gen. William Gayler, director of operations, AFRICOM, initial assessment concluded that two Al-Shabaab militants were killed in this airstrike. No civilians were injured or killed as a result of this airstrike; the press release added.
The U.S. airstrike comes after another air precision bombardment targeted Al-Shabaab positions in Gedo region of Somalia between 16th and 17th May 2020.
The airstrike from unidentified aircraft struck Al-Shabaab’s positions in the general area of Meeri, Laf-Geri, and Dec-Curbes killing 29 militants, destroying a technical vehicle and one of their camp.
