12 militia men have been killed at the central city of Sirte in the recent fight against Islamic State in Libya.
The clashes which have intensified from Saturday have been witnessed since Muammar Gaddafi’s regime was overthrown in 2011, leaving a vacuum and thirst for power.
The twelve were killed at Noufliyeh which is a stronghold of the jihadists who have been controlling the area since February. 10 of the militiamen were killed in fighting at Ben Jawad and two others in Noufliyeh.
However, there are no reported Islamic State casualties at the moment.
The two groups have been fighting for power since 2011 after the fall of Gaddafi. They have all wanted to have control over oil rich Libyan cities in order to acquire that wealth.
Discussions are however underway in Morocco on a possible unity of the two to have a central source of leadership. Sources however say they cannot speculate on how the dialogue will end.
The UN mission in Libya has however called on all the different sides of the conflict in Libya to refrain from wars and instead focus on combating the Islamic State.
