Two terrorists were on Wednesday 3rd February 2016 gunned down in a fierce shootout with security officers in the district Hadaeq al-Maadi in Cairo, state-run MENA news agency reported.
Police officers received a tip-off that two terrorists were hiding in Hadaeq al-Maadi responding immediately a high-level source at the Interior Ministry revealed.
The police raided the place where the terrorists were hiding and fierce exchange of gunfire ensued.
The two militant were finally overwhelmed and killed, large amount of weapons, ammunition and explosive materials were recovered from the operation.
Egypt has been facing anti-government attacks, mostly in the Sinai Peninsula which has left hundreds of police and soldiers killed since 2013.
Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis militant group has claimed responsibility of many attacks in the restive Sinai Peninsula. The militant group pledged loyalty to the Middle East based Islamic State changed its name to Sinai State.
Military continuous massive operations in the troubled Peninsula have killed hundreds of militants as part of the country’s “war against terrorism.”
