Police have arrested two primary teachers in connection with Al-Shabaab activities at a primary school in Isiolo.
The two teachers, whose names are withheld, were arrested by police on Monday at around 4.00 p.m. upon receiving from public on the suspects’ activities.
Yesterday (Wednesday 20th January 2016) Isiolo County Criminal Investigation Officer David Cheruiyot confirmed that the two assailants were arrested and were undergoing interrogation on activities linked to terrorism.
Initial probe reports indicate the two teachers were taking advantage of their position to radicalize young people and aiding in recruitment of youths into joining the militant groups, especially the Somali based Al-Shabaab.
According to Mr Cheruiyot the police had gathered crucial information about their activities from the public and been monitoring them for same time.
The arrest will help security confront the terrorist menace as the two are expected to be interrogated on references of youths reported to have disappeared in Isiolo, dozens being primary and secondary school students.
The officer confirmed the two teachers have since been handed over to the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit who will take 10 days to undertake their investigation.
