Two suspected Al-Shabaab accomplices were arrested by security officers in Ijara and Liboi towns of Garissa County, NEP Kenya.
Report from North Eastern commissioner Mohamed Birik indicate that, one of the suspected was a Kenyan from Gatundu, Kiambu County and a foreigner of European origin.
The foreigner was was intercepted in Ijara town while inquiring about where to board public service vehicles to take him to border town of Hulugho, about 100 kilometers from Ijara town.
Suspicious members of the public notified the police, who arrested him for further interrogations. We have handed both of them to a multi-agency investigating team, Birik added.
Police recovered foreign currency valued at about 34,000 US Dollars. Night visual cameras and GPS gadgets were confiscated from the foreigner suspect, among other assorted high tech-communication equipment.
Travel document from the foreigner showed that he had been from Iran, Somalia and several European countries.
The Kenyan suspect was in possession of a Quran and alleged that he was headed to Kismayo, Somalia on a business trip. His travel document (passport) indicated that he travelled severally to Uganda between 2005 and 2006. He also travelled to Qatar in 2004.
Initial reports from the detectives indicate that, the suspect left Kiambu, Thursday, 30th August 2018 and spent the night at his cousin’s place in Kahawa West, Roysambu Constuency, Nairobi County.
On Friday 31st August 2018, he travelled to Garissa where he spent two days at a hotel identified as Paradise hotel. He then proceeded to the border town of Liboi.
He speaks fluent Kikuyu, Kiswahili and English.
Interrogation to continue to ascertain the suspicious movement and intentions of the two suspects.
