At least two strategic villages have been liberated in central Somalia as joint operations against Al-Shabaab gain momentum. Joint SNA and ATIMS troops recaptured Warholo and Wabho villages, all in the Galgadud region.
Wabho, a town in the Galgadud region has been under the control of Al-Shabaab for the about 14 years. The operations in the two villages also left at least 10 Al-Shabaab fighters killed and others fleeing with gun wounds.
The joint military troops have also received significant support including intelligence in countering Al-Shabaab in central Somalia theaters.
According to recent Somali defense reports, nearly 100 Al-Shabaab fighters have been killed by the Somali government forces, backed by local pro-government local groups and international partners in the latest operations in Galgadud and Lower Shabelle regions.
According to a statement issued by Somalia Ministry of Information on Wednesday, government backed by international troops and local clan forces have killed 50 Al-Shabaab fighters in El Gorof village in Somalia’s central region of Galgadud, while international partners supporting SNA forces killed 47 others in Basra district in the Lower Shabelle region.
Somalia has been plagued by insecurity for years, with Al-Qaeda affiliated branch Al-Shabaab being one of the main threats in the Horn of Africa country with no end of this battle in sight.
