Tunisian police in nighttime counter-terrorism operations conducted in in western Tunisia region killed two jihadist terrorists and recovered guns and suicide belts.
According to a statement by interior ministry, the two men are known by the police and had been on the terrorist wanted list before being killed in hours-long shootout that lasted from Tuesday night to early Wednesday.
Interior ministry in a statement said that the two men had been planning a terrorist attack in western Tunisia region and called the mission a “preventative assault.”
Police raid comes just two days after landmines and rockets were used to ambush a military patrol in which some soldiers perished in a remote mountain area in nearby Kasserine.
An Al Qaeda linked terrorist group Okba Ibn Nafaa has claimed recent attacks on Tunisia’s army and police.
