Two suspects were arraigned in a Mandera court over travelling to a terrorist designated country without documents being signed by authorities to ascertain of their journey.
Preliminary report indicates that the two identified as Idris Opwora Wesonga and Joseph Juma came from Western Kenya. They had traveled from their villages sometimes in October and rented a temporary house in Mandera.
After a week, the two are reported to had crossed over mysteriously to Somalia using the Bulahawa border point where it is believed they intended to join Al-Shabaab militant group.
They had boarded a taxi which was expected to ferry them to Baidoa, the administrative capital of the troubled South West State but were intercepted by security forces and handed over to Kenyan authorities.
The two charged with crossing into Somalia at an undesignated location and failed to report their exit to Somalia at any immigration office in Kenya.
Cases of Kenya and Tanzania nationals trying to cross over to Somalia to join the radical extremist Al-Shabaab have been reported though they have declined following rigorous joint counterterrorism operations along the border prefectures.
