The African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) has announced the completion of a two-day training for 80 Somali officials on means to handle rehabilitation of former combatants. The participants were trained on how to manage and especially properly rehabilitate for al Shabaab members that have defected from the terror organization.
The government officials drawn from Somali state agencies that handle rehabilitation of former combatants attended the two-day training program aimed at sharing best practices and challenges of the rehabilitation program and how to forge ahead.
The rehabilitation program in Somalia goes hand in hand with the federal government’s offer for amnesty for al Shabaab members that renounce violence and desert their radical ways and views to be reintegrated into the society.
AMISOM is a crucial partner in providing training, equipment and resourcing for the rehabilitation of former combatants, an integral part of the national program for the treatment and handling of disengaged combatants in Somalia.
