Security reports in Turkey have announced the arrest of at least 36 Daesh suspects arrested in different counterterrorism operations during the weekend. The operations were conducted in Istanbul’s Bayrampasa, Zeytinburnu, Basaksehir, Esenyurt, Tuzla and Umraniye districts.
The arrested suspects were foreigners and are alleged to have been planning an attack in Istanbul. Moreover, of the suspects arrested, four were arrested for having ties with the Daesh terrorist Abdulkhaleq Abdulqader Ali, who last week posted a video on social media apparently showing him shooting his brother in the head.
The police also recovered a Daesh flag, documents and $50,000 believed to have been funding for the purported attack on innocent civilians in Turkey.
Security sweeps and operations conducted by Turkish Police and security forces have intensified in the past months as ISIS loses the majority of its strongholds in neighboring Syria and Iraq.
