A Saturday night swoop targeting suspected associates of terror cells and criminal gangs saw police foil possible terror attacks in Mombasa and the arrest of two key suspects, intelligence sources report.
The operation was clandestine and caught the suspects and those arrested by surprise as police raided nightspots and area’s believed to be housing terror cells.
300 people were arrested in the operation. Police officials have warned the locals against helping anyone suspected to be collaborating or abetting crime and terrorism.
Attacks on civilians and churches in the coastal city has angered the residents who have been questioning the ability of the police to stop crime and terrorism.
The attacks have further negatively impacted the booming tourism industry with hotels losing customers in the worst slump of the industry.
